Descrizione

In times of climate change, global warming and loss of biodiversity, the environmental sustainability of all human activities has become a matter of significant concern at both the international and European legal levels.
The present volume brings together and organises a series of essays that investigate the manner and extent to which concerns regarding environmental sustainability are reflected in, and impact, international and EU law in the form of a collective protected interest. Particular attention is devoted to international human rights instruments and monitoring procedures, as well as to participatory rights and environmental policies within the EU system.
The essays and the volume are the outcome of a Project of Relevant National Interest (PRIN) involving teams of researchers from six Italian universities under the coordination of Giuseppe Palmisano, the project’s principal investigator.

Giuseppe Palmisano is professor of International law at the University of Roma Tre (Department of Law). He is a member of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. He formerly occupied the roles of member, president and general rapporteur of the European Committee of Social Rights. From 2011 to 2017, he served as director of the Institute for International Legal Studies of the National Research Council of Italy (ISGI-CNR).
